Solid Wood Floating Wall Shelves.
Set of 2 solid wood and bamboo floating wall shelves with a rustic modern finish. Easy screw mount, no specialist tools required. Available in 16” (40cm) and 24” (60cm) to suit any room and wall space.
The combination of solid wood and bamboo gives these shelves a material quality that MDF or particleboard alternatives can’t replicate — genuine weight, natural grain variation, and a surface that holds up to daily use without chipping or sagging under load. Bamboo adds structural rigidity while keeping the overall weight manageable for wall mounting. The material pairing that makes a shelf feel like a considered piece of furniture rather than a flat-pack afterthought.
The rustic modern finish sits between raw natural wood and a clean contemporary look — warm enough to complement natural material interiors, restrained enough to work in more minimal or Scandi-influenced spaces. The aesthetic that doesn’t require a specific interior style to look right, making these shelves a reliable choice for living rooms, bedrooms, hallways, and home offices without needing to match a particular palette.
Two shelves per set gives you the flexibility to mount them as a pair on the same wall for layered storage, use them in different rooms, or mix sizes across a space. Enough surface area to display books, plants, candles, ornaments, and everyday items without everything feeling cramped on a single narrow ledge. The quantity that makes the purchase feel more considered than a single shelf.
Screw mount installation means the shelves go up with standard wall fixings and a drill — no specialist tools, no complicated brackets, no need to hire anyone. Most people can complete the installation in under 30 minutes per shelf, even without significant DIY experience. Mounting hardware is included, and the fixing points are positioned to distribute weight evenly across the wall for a secure, level result.
- Decide on shelf height and mark the wall with a pencil — use a spirit level to ensure marks are perfectly horizontal before drilling. A shelf installed even slightly off-level will be immediately visible once items are placed on it.
- Locate wall studs if mounting into a stud wall, or use appropriate hollow wall fixings (wall plugs) if mounting into plasterboard. Check the fixing type matches your wall before starting.
- Drill pilot holes at the marked positions, insert wall plugs if required, and screw the mounting bracket firmly to the wall. Check level again after each screw before proceeding.
- Hang the shelf onto the mounted bracket. Check level and load capacity before placing items on the shelf.
- Allow any filler or adhesive used around fixings to cure fully before loading the shelf.
- 16” (40cm): the more compact option — suited to narrower wall spaces, alcoves, and areas where a longer shelf would feel oversized. Works well for small displays, a few books, a plant, or a single row of ornaments. The better choice for bathrooms, smaller bedrooms, and hallways where wall space is limited.
- 24” (60cm): the more generous option — suited to living rooms, home offices, and bedrooms where more display surface is needed. Long enough to hold a meaningful collection of books, a row of plants, or a curated display without items being cramped. The better choice when the shelf is intended to be a feature of the room.
- Dust regularly with a dry or lightly damp cloth. Avoid saturating the wood surface with water — wipe any spills immediately and dry the surface promptly.
- Do not use abrasive cleaners, bleach, or solvent-based products on the wood surface. A mild soap solution on a damp cloth is sufficient for marks and general cleaning.
- Avoid placing very hot items directly on the wood surface — use coasters or trivets under candles, mugs, and other heat sources to prevent marking.
- The natural wood finish may develop a slight patina over time — this is a normal property of real wood and gives the shelf a more characterful, lived-in quality.
- Check wall fixings periodically — tighten any screws that have worked loose before the shelf develops any movement.
- Books and objects: a row of books with spines facing out, punctuated by a small plant or ornament at one end. Works in any room at any height.
- Plant shelf: trailing plants (pothos, string of pearls, ivy) placed at the shelf edge create a natural look — particularly effective when mounted higher so trailing stems have space to hang.
- Stacked pair: two shelves mounted at different heights on the same wall — 15–20cm apart — creates a more architectural look and doubles the display surface.
- Bathroom display: the 16” size works well in bathrooms for candles, small plants, folded towels, and toiletries — natural wood adds warmth to typically hard, tiled surfaces.
“Most floating shelves are either too shallow to be useful or too industrial to look right — solid wood and bamboo in a rustic modern finish belongs on the wall.”
