Weeds that are cut or pulled at the surface re-grow from the root within days — dandelions, dock, bindweed, and thistles have taproots that extend 15–30cm into the soil, and removing only the above-ground portion of the plant leaves the root intact and capable of re-sprouting. Effective weeding requires reaching and removing the root below the soil surface, which is what this tool is designed to do.
