The UV sterilisation system operates during the wash cycle to reduce the bacterial load on garments, targeting the microorganisms that accumulate on frequently worn items — particularly socks and underwear — through contact with skin, sweat, and the environment. UV-C light at the appropriate wavelength damages the DNA and RNA of bacteria and certain viruses, preventing reproduction and reducing viable microbial counts on the fabric surface. Standard washing with detergent alone mechanically removes soil and reduces microbial counts through dilution and surfactant action, but does not sterilise; the UV sterilisation component provides an additional antimicrobial mechanism that acts on organisms that remain on fabric after the wash cycle, particularly in cases where wash temperature is limited by fabric care requirements and full thermal disinfection is not possible. For items worn directly against the skin that are washed at lower temperatures to protect the fabric — underwear, fine knit socks, compression garments — the UV sterilisation step provides a hygiene outcome closer to a high-temperature wash without the thermal stress on the garment. For users who wash items in shared laundry environments or who travel and wash items with limited access to high-temperature machines, the UV sterilisation provides an additional hygiene assurance beyond what the mechanical wash cycle alone achieves.
The bionic hand-wash action mimics the mechanical motion of hand-washing — the combination of compression, release, and directional water movement that dislodges soil from fabric fibres without the abrasive tumbling action of a drum washing machine. Standard drum washing machines clean through a combination of chemical action (detergent) and mechanical action (the tumbling of garments against each other and against the drum wall); for robust fabrics like cotton shirts and denim this mechanical action is effective and acceptable, but for fine knits, lace, silk, elasticated garments, and items with structured construction, the repeated impact and friction of drum washing causes progressive fabric degradation — pilling, stretching, distortion of elastic, and damage to embellishments. The bionic hand-wash mechanism provides the mechanical cleaning action necessary to remove soil from fabric fibres while limiting the impact and abrasion forces applied to the garment, producing a cleaning result comparable to careful hand-washing at a fraction of the time and effort. The ozone-equipped variants add a second sterilisation mechanism to the wash cycle: ozone (O₃) dissolved in water at low concentrations acts as a powerful oxidising agent that denatures microbial proteins and disrupts bacterial cell membranes, achieving a sterilisation effect at lower temperatures than thermal disinfection and without the need for bleach or harsh chemical sanitisers. Ozone in water reverts rapidly to oxygen after the sterilisation cycle, leaving no chemical residue on the garment or in the wash water — it does not require a separate rinse step to remove sanitiser residue, and the wastewater from an ozone-treated wash cycle contains no persistent chemical disinfectant. The ozone option is particularly relevant for users with heightened hygiene requirements: immunocompromised individuals or carers of immunocompromised family members; users in environments with elevated contamination exposure such as healthcare adjacent or public transport-heavy daily routines; users who wash items shared between household members; and users who want the maximum achievable hygiene outcome from a compact wash cycle. The unit requires only a water supply and a power socket — no permanent plumbing installation, no drum installation clearance, and no drainage connection beyond emptying the wash basin into a sink or drain after the cycle. - Fill the wash basin to the indicated water level with water at an appropriate temperature for the garments being washed. Consult care labels; most delicates and elasticated garments should be washed at 30°C or below.
- Add a small amount of suitable detergent for delicate or hand-wash garments. Do not use standard machine washing powder at full dosage; use a hand-wash or delicate liquid detergent at a reduced quantity appropriate for a small wash volume.
- Load the garments into the wash basin. Do not overload — the bionic hand-wash action requires space around the garments to produce effective water movement and mechanical cleaning. A small load of socks and underwear is the typical use case.
- Select the wash cycle using the controls. For the ozone variants, select the ozone mode if enhanced sterilisation is required. Start the cycle.
- After the cycle completes, remove garments, rinse if required by the detergent instructions, and drain the wash basin. Wipe the interior dry if storing the unit after use.
- With Ozone — choose this variant if maximum hygiene is a priority: if you are immunocompromised or care for someone who is, if your daily routine involves high contamination exposure (healthcare, public transport, shared environments), or if you want the highest achievable sterilisation outcome from a compact wash cycle.
- Without Ozone — choose this variant if the UV sterilisation provides sufficient hygiene assurance for your use case and you prefer a lower price point. UV sterilisation is effective for standard daily hygiene use and is the appropriate choice for most dorm, travel, and studio flat applications.
- Colour (White or Green) — a purely aesthetic choice. Both colours are available in both ozone configurations. Select based on your preference and the environment where the unit will be stored or used.
- Suitable: socks, underwear, bras, fine knit tops, silk items, lace garments, compression socks, elasticated base layers, small delicate items labelled hand-wash or 30°C machine wash.
- Not suitable: heavy denim, thick knitwear, outerwear, bedding, towels, or any item that exceeds the wash basin capacity when wet. The compact form factor is designed for a small load of lightweight garments, not for full household laundry loads.
- Check care labels before washing. Items labelled dry-clean only should not be washed in water regardless of the wash mechanism.
- After each use, drain the wash basin fully and wipe the interior with a dry cloth to remove residual moisture and detergent.
- Clean the wash basin with a mild detergent solution monthly to prevent detergent residue and limescale build-up, particularly in hard water areas. Rinse thoroughly and dry before storage.
- Wipe the exterior with a dry or lightly damp cloth. Do not submerge the unit body or allow water to enter the motor or electrical components through the exterior.
- For the ozone variants, inspect the ozone generator periodically for visible deposits. Follow the manufacturer’s instructions for cleaning the ozone generator if output appears reduced.
- Store the unit dry with the lid or cover open to allow air circulation and prevent moisture accumulation in the wash basin between uses.
