Download the app: install the companion app on your smartphone before setting up the feeder. Follow the in-app instructions to create an account and connect the feeder to your Wi-Fi network.
Position the feeder: choose a location that receives direct sunlight for at least part of the day to keep the solar panel charged. A spot with a clear sightline from indoors makes it easy to watch visiting birds in real time if you wish.
Fill with seed: add wild bird seed, sunflower hearts, or a seed mix suitable for the birds in your area. Avoid loose mixes with a high proportion of filler grains that birds will scatter and waste.
Mount or hang: use the included mounting option to hang or fix the feeder at a height that is accessible to birds but discourages squirrels — typically 1.5 to 2 metres from the ground.
Check the app: once connected, the app will begin sending alerts and capturing images as soon as birds are detected.

Allow a few days for local birds to discover a new feeder. Birds in established gardens are often cautious of new additions — the natural bamboo finish helps the feeder blend in rather than standing out as something unfamiliar.

Refilling: check seed levels weekly. Empty and refill rather than topping up — old seed at the bottom of the feeder can become damp and mouldy, which is harmful to birds.

Ensure your router broadcasts on 2.4GHz (most modern routers support both 2.4GHz and 5GHz). If you experience connection issues during setup, temporarily disable the 5GHz band on your router or connect your phone to the 2.4GHz network before pairing.

Best seed types: sunflower hearts, nyjer seed and mixed wild bird seed attract the widest variety of garden birds in the UK. Avoid bread, salted peanuts, and desiccated coconut, which are harmful to birds.
