A static charge is electricity sitting on you. To get rid of it, it has to flow somewhere — into the ground, most commonly. That is why every anti-static strap used in electronics manufacturing has a wire, often with a resistor in it: the wire is the path the charge takes. A silicone band on your wrist connects to nothing, so there is no path for charge to leave by. That is the whole physics of it, and it is why a band like this cannot change the static on your body — not because it is badly made, but because there is nothing for it to connect to.

- Wash it occasionally with mild soap and water, then dry it fully, particularly if it has been worn in warm weather or against sunscreen or lotion.
- Keep it away from perfumes, lotions and hair products, which leave a residue that is a common reason silicone starts to look tired.
- Take it off before swimming in chlorinated water or the sea where you can, and rinse and dry it afterwards if you do not.
- Check the fastening periodically. On an adjustable band it is the only part that can genuinely fail.
- Store it dry, and keep it separate from anything sharper so the pattern does not get scratched.
- Make the fastening the thing you check. It is the only moving part on the bracelet and the only thing that can fail.
- Look at the band where it flexes most, typically opposite the fastening, for cracks, thinning or a pattern that has started to lift.
- Watch for the band stretching. A band that has become noticeably looser will eventually come off without you noticing.
- Keep an eye on the skin underneath, especially in warm weather or if it is worn continuously — silicone is worn against the skin for hours at a time.
