The ZigBee version integrates with an existing ZigBee-compatible hub — lower power consumption than WiFi and better suited to smart home setups where multiple sensors are already running on a ZigBee network. The right choice for anyone building out a more comprehensive smart home system who wants all their sensors on a single, efficient protocol rather than adding individual WiFi devices to the network. ZigBee sensors also tend to have longer battery life than WiFi equivalents, making them better suited to locations where battery access is inconvenient.

Choose WiFi if: you don’t have a ZigBee hub and don’t plan to get one. The WiFi version works independently with just your home router and the Tuya app — the simpler, more accessible option for most households.
Choose ZigBee if: you already have a ZigBee-compatible hub (such as a Tuya ZigBee gateway, Philips Hue bridge, or similar) and want to keep all your smart home devices on a single low-power network. ZigBee sensors typically use less battery power than WiFi equivalents and are better suited to large-scale smart home deployments.
Both versions use the same Tuya Smart / Smart Life app for monitoring and alerts — the difference is in how they connect to your network, not in what they do.

If you are unsure which version to choose, the WiFi version is the safer starting point — it requires no additional hardware and can be set up in minutes. You can always add ZigBee devices later if you expand your smart home setup.

Download the Tuya Smart or Smart Life app on your phone and create an account if you don’t already have one.
Insert batteries into the sensor (battery type specified in the included instructions). The sensor will power on automatically.
Open the app and follow the ‘Add Device’ process — for WiFi, you’ll enter your network credentials; for ZigBee, you’ll need to add the sensor via your hub’s pairing mode first.
Once paired, install the sensor on the door or window frame using the included adhesive tape or screws. The main body attaches to the fixed frame; the smaller magnet piece attaches to the moving door or window. Align them so they are within 10–15mm of each other when the door/window is closed.
Test by opening and closing the door or window — you should receive a notification on your phone within a few seconds. Adjust the magnet position if the sensor does not register correctly.

For best adhesion, clean the mounting surface with a dry cloth before applying the adhesive tape. Allow 24 hours for the adhesive to fully cure before the door or window is used heavily.

Front and back doors: know immediately when anyone enters or leaves the property — useful for households with children, elderly relatives, or anyone who needs to monitor access.
Ground floor windows: an alert whenever a window is opened unexpectedly, particularly useful at night or when the property is unoccupied.
Garage or outbuilding doors: monitor access to secondary buildings without needing a separate security system.
Medicine cabinets or storage: set an alert for any opening of a locked or sensitive cabinet — particularly useful in households with young children.
Holiday properties or rentals: monitor check-in and check-out remotely via the app without needing to be on-site.

The Tuya app displays battery level for the sensor — check periodically and replace batteries before the level drops to a point where alerts may be missed.
WiFi sensors typically use more battery power than ZigBee equivalents due to the higher power draw of WiFi connectivity. Expect more frequent battery replacements on the WiFi version in locations with high activity.
If the sensor stops sending alerts, check the battery level first — low battery is the most common cause of sensor failure before checking connectivity or app settings.
Clean the sensor body with a dry cloth if dust or moisture accumulates around the magnet or sensor gap. Do not use liquid cleaners on the sensor body.
