Solar Smart Bird Feeder.

A self-sufficient garden bird feeder powered by a built-in 5000mAh solar battery. No mains power required, no batteries to replace, fully waterproof and built for year-round outdoor use in gardens, patios and balconies. Fill it with seed, position it in sunlight, and leave it to do its job.

015000mAh Solar Battery — Fully Self-Powered, No Cables or Battery Changes

The built-in 5000mAh solar battery charges from sunlight and powers the feeder continuously. No mains cable to run across the garden, no batteries to replace on a schedule, no need to bring it inside to charge. A genuinely self-sufficient setup that works as long as there is daylight. The kind of practical advantage that makes a real difference to how often a garden accessory actually gets used rather than sitting neglected because of the effort involved in maintaining it.

02Fully Waterproof — Built for All Weather, All Year Round

Fully waterproof construction means the feeder handles rain, wind, frost and the full range of British weather without needing to be brought inside or covered. A bird feeder that can’t be left out in the rain is one that doesn’t get used — waterproofing removes that concern entirely and makes the feeder genuinely suitable for permanent outdoor placement across all seasons without any weather-related maintenance or anxiety about damage.

03Low Maintenance — Set Up Once, Leave It Running Season after Season

Solar charging and waterproof construction combine to create a feeder that requires minimal ongoing attention. Position it in a spot with reasonable sunlight, fill it with seed, and leave it to attract birds season after season. The only maintenance required is refilling the seed when it runs out. A significant practical advantage over feeders that require regular battery changes, cable management or weather-related intervention — the difference between a feeder that gets used consistently and one that gets forgotten.

04Garden, Patio & Balcony — Place It Where the Birds Are, Not Where the Cable Reaches

No power socket dependency means placement is not constrained by proximity to a mains outlet or shelter from the rain — go where the birds are rather than where the cable reaches. Suitable for gardens, patios, balconies and any outdoor space where birds visit. A thoughtful and distinctive gift for bird lovers, wildlife enthusiasts and gardeners who want to attract more birds to their outdoor space without the hassle of a high-maintenance feeder.

In the Box1 × Solar Smart Bird Feeder
  • Choose your location: select a spot that receives direct sunlight for at least part of the day to keep the solar battery charged. South or west-facing positions work well in the UK. Avoid deep shade — the solar panel needs light to function.
  • Height and positioning: hang or mount the feeder at a height accessible to birds but away from easy squirrel access. 1.5 to 2 metres from the ground, away from fences and overhanging branches, is a good starting point.
  • Fill with seed: add wild bird seed, sunflower hearts, or a quality seed mix suitable for the birds in your area before hanging. Avoid mixes heavy in filler grains that birds will scatter and waste.
  • Allow discovery time: birds in established gardens can take a few days to a week to discover and trust a new feeder. Position it near existing perches or vegetation to encourage visits sooner.
The feeder does not require any initial charging before use — position it in sunlight and it will begin charging and operating immediately. In extended periods of low light (overcast UK winters), the 5000mAh battery provides sufficient reserve to continue operating without direct sun for several days.
  • Refilling: check seed levels regularly — weekly in active periods. Empty and refill rather than topping up. Old seed at the bottom of the feeder can become damp and mouldy, which is harmful to birds.
  • Cleaning: clean the feeder monthly using warm water and a mild detergent. Remove all seed residue and allow to dry fully before refilling. A clean feeder significantly reduces the risk of salmonella and other diseases that spread at bird feeding stations.
  • Solar panel: wipe the panel surface periodically with a damp cloth. Dust, pollen, bird droppings and lichen on the panel surface reduce charging efficiency over time.
  • Waterproof seals: inspect the feeder periodically for any signs of wear at joints or seals. The waterproof construction is durable but benefits from an annual inspection, particularly after harsh winters.
  • Sunflower hearts: the single most effective seed for attracting the widest variety of garden birds in the UK. No husks, no mess, and almost universally accepted by birds from blue tits to goldfinches to sparrows.
  • Nyjer seed: particularly attractive to finches, especially goldfinches and siskins. Best used in a feeder with small ports designed for nyjer — check the feeder’s port size before using nyjer exclusively.
  • Mixed wild bird seed: a good general-purpose option. Quality matters — choose mixes with a high proportion of sunflower hearts, millet and peanut granules and a low proportion of filler grains like wheat and milo that most birds reject.
  • Avoid: bread (low nutrition, fills birds up without providing value), salted or dry-roasted peanuts (toxic to birds), desiccated coconut (expands in the stomach), and any mouldy or damp seed.
Year-round feeding benefits garden birds significantly, not just in winter. Spring and summer feeding supports breeding birds that spend enormous energy feeding chicks and may struggle to find enough natural food to sustain themselves at the same time.
  • Squirrel deterrence: mount at least 1.5m from the ground on a smooth pole and away from fences, walls and overhanging branches. No feeder is entirely squirrel-proof, but positioning significantly reduces access.
  • Winter use: the 5000mAh battery provides sufficient reserve to operate through typical UK overcast winter periods. During extended very low-light conditions, the feeder may draw down the battery — repositioning to maximise available winter sun helps.
  • Gifting: a distinctive and practical gift for bird lovers, gardeners, wildlife enthusiasts and anyone who wants to attract birds to their garden without the hassle of a conventional feeder. The solar and waterproof design makes it considerably more gift-worthy than a standard plastic feeder.
  • Balcony use: fully suitable for balconies — no power socket, no trailing cables, and waterproof construction handles exposed balcony conditions. Check your building’s policy on bird feeding before installing if you live in a managed building.
